What is Reiki
Reiki originated in Japan and is a healing technique that can support and complement conventional medicine. Rei means ‘universal’ and ki means vital ‘life force energy’.
Reiki helps people become more energetically balanced and promotes relaxation, wellbeing and self-healing. Reiki considers our bodies to be made up of the physical body, and also the emotional, mental and spiritual body. When one of these is affected (often as a result of prolonged stress), they may work less than optimally.
Human bodies are made up of energy. For example, your heart is electrical. Electricity is energy. So when your heart pumps blood throughout your body it is filled with energy. Your brain has electrical neurons that send messages throughout your entire body. Your thoughts, therefore, are energy too. We can all remember times when we have felt down or had negative feelings about a situation. If we have emotions that are not released in healthy ways (such as crying when we feel sad) and we then suppress those uncomfortable feelings, that energy gets stuck in our bodies.
Reiki can help shift this stuck energy and release it from our cells, organs and our bodies as a whole, thus freeing our systems to be able to work optimally again.
